4 abducted Zamfara girls regain freedom after 7 months in captivity

The Zamfara State government on Thursday received four girls abducted by terrorists in January after they were released by their abductors.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the girls include a final year student of the Zamfara State College of Arts and Sciences, ZACAS, Ummulkhairi Musa, Jamila Isa, Aisha Isa, and UmmulKhairi Umar.

They were abducted while returning from a wedding along Kaura Namoda – Birnin Magaji road on January 15.

In a statement issued by Sulaiman idris, spokesperson to Governor Dauda Lawal, said the girls were rescued through “government intervention”.

According to him, the governor became worried after seeing a video of the abducted girls pleading with their families and the state government to come to their rescue.

“As the Chief Executive of Zamfara State, I want to express my utmost gratitude to Allah for the freedom of these ladies who were kidnapped some seven months ago.

“It is indeed a moment of happiness for the government and the families of the victims.I am calling on the victims to consider what happened as a test from the Almighty Allah. Let it not in any way affect their lives, for they have a better future ahead,” Mr Lawal said.

He assured that the girls will be fully reintegrated into the society and their needs provided for.

“My government is determined to do whatever it takes to bring an end to the menace of kidnapping and banditry in our dear state. It is a collective responsibility; we must cooperate and always provide security with relevant information,” the governor said.

Speaking to newsmen, one of the rescued victims, Umulkhairu Musa, expressed gratitude to God and those who stood by them during their captivity.

“I’m really excited to regain my freedom. I thank you for great Job, May Allah reward you abundantly,” she prayed.
