Chairman of Fatwa Committee of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Sheikh Ibrahim Ibn Saleh al-Hussaini, has welcomed the conferment of Honorary Doctorate of Laws, LL.D, on him by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the ABU governing council had approved the conferment of Honorary Degrees on Sheikh Sheriff Saleh and Dr. Ngozi-Iweala at its 44th Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025.
While Mrs Okonjo-Iweala would be conferred with Doctor of Science, D.Sc, Mr Saleh will receive Doctor of Laws, LL.D, for their lifelong dedication to leadership, service, and the betterment of humanity.
Speaking during a media parley on Wednesday at his Abuja residence, the renown Islamic cleric commended the university for honouring deserving Nigerians without recourse to religion and ethnicity.
Mr Saleh, who is a member of the Muslim Council of Elders, called on other institutions to confer such awards to other worthy individuals without regard to ethnicity or religion.
The 97-year-old cleric who was also conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON, in 2008, called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
Mr Saleh said there was a divine plan in the diversity of Nigeria, adding that differences of our opinions don’t matter.
According to him, each and every Nigerian has a role to play in making the country great, urging imams, pastors to intensify prayers for Nigeria’s unity, peace
“Unity and peaceful coexistence are important ingredients to all Nigerians. We have to accept our diversity because our diversity is a strength, not a weakness, it is only a way of making ourselves busy finding a lasting solution to our challenges,” the cleric added.
Speaking on the hardship many Nigerians are facing, the cleric urged President Bola Tinubu to listen to the voices of the masses.
He, however, called on Nigerians to give constructive advice and solutions to the government.
“Everyone should seek forgiveness from Allah in the face of multiple challenges bedeviling the country,” he added.
