The Abuja-Kaduna expressway is now open after about four-hour traffic gridlock, Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, announced.
He apologized the inconveniences might have caused motorists plying the road during the gridlock hours.
“The Kaduna-Abuja road around the Olam Company general area is now open. Sorry for the inconveniences and thank you for your patience,” Mr Aruwan posted on his Facebook timeline.
The standstill followed the killing of a commercial car driver by security operatives along the road.
Witnesses said a driver of Peugeot J-5 bus was shot by the operatives around Olam factory, while on his way to Kaduna around 7:30 am.
In protest against the killing, his colleagues gathered and mobilised others to block the two lanes of the expressway.
Earlier in the morning, Mr Aruwan assured motorists that the government was handling the issue, adding “We are working and the road will be cleared in a jiffy.”
