ADP insists Shaaban Sharada is Kano guber candidate, says Koguna duly resigned for ‘better candidate’

The Kano chapter of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, has reaffirmed the Kano governorship candidature of Shaaban Sharada and dismissed the claims of the former candidate, Nasiru Koguna.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Koguna had dragged Mr Sharada to court, seeking his disqualification as the candidate by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Mr Koguna, through his lawyer Nasiru Aliyu, SAN, said he was duly elected as the ADP candidate by the delegates of the party.

He further stated that he did not personally write to the INEC notifying it about withdrawal as required by the Electoral Act 2022.

But in a statement sent to DAILY NIGERIAN on Saturday, the party said Mr Koguna duly resigned to pave way for for a “better and willing” candidate.

“Our attention has been drawn to a letter being circulated on social media platforms with the above subject matter being ascribed to Nasir Hassan Koguna through Bashir, Nasir, and Co. Barristers and Solicitors, signed by one Prof. Nasir A. Aliyu SAN, dated 22nd August 2022.

“The party hereby sets the record straight that through a unanimous understanding, Nasir Hassan Koguna voluntarily withdrew his candidature by completing INEC form EC 118 due to the emergence of a better and willing candidate, Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada. Mr. Koguna avowed the aforementioned fact in the sworn affidavit that he signed and the letter of voluntary withdrawal that he addressed to the party’s national chairman, and
the party has copies of the said documents in its records.

“Therefore, the party unequivocally submits that Hon. Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada is its authentic gubernatorial candidate in Kano State, having fulfilled all the provisions of the party constitution and guidelines which includes purchase of expression of interest and nomination forms and all necessary dues.

“In conclusion, the party calls on all its teeming supporters and well-wishers to remain firm and resolute as victory is ours, in sha Allah,” the statement signed by the state party chairman, Rabiu Bako, said.
