The minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has dismissed claims by the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, that tonnes of plastic rice were imported into Nigeria.
Earlier in the week, Customs seized 102 bags of what they called plastic rice, causing panic across the country.

Mr. Adewole took to his Twitter handle on Thursday to dismiss the claims, saying the said plastic rice was subjected to laboratory test and they found out it was actually organic.
“I have just been briefed by DG @NafdacAgency on Plastic Rice reports. Preliminary test results reveal there is no evidence backing claims
“Tests conducted; floating – negative, cooking – normal, odour normal, color – off white rice grains, moisture – 13.0, pre-ashing – normal
“@nafdacagency will release detailed findings to public as soon as it concludes investigations.
“We urge all Nigerians to remain calm for now,” the minister tweeted.
