Aftermath of Kaduna mayhem: NGO engages youth in peace, reconciliatory talks

In the aftermath of the Kasuwan Magani mayhem that claimed seven lives and destroyed properties running into millions of Naira, the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, PRRFN, met with the traditional leaders, Muslim and Christian leaders, youth organizations in the area to broker the ideas of living in peace with one another.

Leading the team, the National President of the PRRFN, Yohanna Buru, condoled with every member of the community over the ugly incident, saying that it is very important to live in peace with one another.

According to him, religious tolerance is one of the various ways to halt this type of problems in the future.

He further said: “We came here as a team of religious leaders to meet with every stakeholder in the area so as to interact, and dialogue on ways to move the state ahead through forgiveness, tolerance.”

Mr Baru pointed out that peace is the best option to all kinds of problem disturbing any society.

“I am begging everyone in the community to forgive each other and explore means of dialogue in whatever situation one finds himself.

“I am also imploring on both the Muslims and Christians in the area to forgive each other, because our holy books teaches us to forgive one another and to live in peace and harmony.

“For this reason, we must always find a place in your hearts to forgive each other.”

Mr Buru emphasised that there was the need for all the traditional title holders and youth organizations with other local tribe to be meeting from time to time and be dialoguing on issues that could help them in moving the region forward.

He recalled that the state had in the past experienced religious crisis that claimed hundreds of lives and millions of property destroyed.

“The incident turned large numbers of families to refugees; we don’t want any repetition of it. We want peace everywhere, that is why we are carrying peace campaign mission to any crisis region, he said.”

 The team therefore called on the state government, philanthropist, NGOs and many other spirited individuals to form the habit of helping the youth with skills which would bring a lasting solution to the increasing unemployment challenges in the country.

Responding on behalf of the community in the area, Ibrahim Abdullahi commended the team for the visit and the security operatives for the quick intervention.

Meanwhile, Governor El-Rufai has ordered the State Emergency Management Agency to take inventory of damages and provide relief materials with immediate effect.

The governor sympathized with the families of the deceased and injured victims while urging the people of the state to reject violence and division, but promote peace and harmony.
