National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff on Sunday said threats and counter-threats by ethnic groups in the country only add to the challenges confronting Nigeria.
He said in a Sallah message that Nigerians should use the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to pray for peace, unity and tolerance of the country.
National Publicity Secretary, Bernard Mikko, who released the statement, said the party was worried by the growing tension in the country due to agitations and youth restiveness occasioned by claims and counter-claims of domination and marginalization by the ethnic nationalities in the country.
“Therefore, as we mark this year’s Sallah celebration, we sue for peace and tolerance as we urge every Nigerian to be committed to the task of nation building.
“Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic and religious affiliations should focus on our similarities rather than differences.
“We are better off a united country; and so we shall we remain,’’ Sheriff’s statement said.
He then urged Nigerians to pray for leaders and believe that God will guide them to direct the affairs of the country for the benefit of all.
