The Court of Appeal Court in Calabar has nullified the election of Chris Ekpenyong, a senator representing Akwa Ibom North on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The election was challenged by the candidate of All Progressives Party, APC and current minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio.
While nullifying the election, the court ordered for a fresh election in one local government.
Mr Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, was first elected senator in 2015 after serving two terms as a governor between 2007 and 2015.
After losing re-election bid to the Senate in 2019 President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him into his cabinet in July, serving currently as the Niger-Delta minister.
