Some persons suspected to be political thugs have invaded the premises of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, AKHA complex along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo in the early house of Monday.
Our correspondent gathered that the thugs set fire on the roads leading to the Assembly complex and blocked the entrances to the Chambers.
It was also gathered that the thugs were allegedly hired by an embattled member representing the Itu State Constituency, Idongesit Ituen, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, to disrupt the session and prevent his seat from being declared vacant over his defection to APC.
However, according to Nigerian Tribune, the Assembly premises had been cordoned off by the police to stem further threat.
Recall that Justice Fatun Riman of the Federal High Court in Uyo, had ruled against Mr Ituen over his defection, and a copy of the ruling was, last week, sent to the House, which the Speaker, Onofiok Luke, was set to implement today (Monday).
This, it was said forced the lawmaker, Itu, to move towards stalling the action, while waiting for the outcome of his appeal at the Appeal Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State.
