The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has died aged 83.

He died after a brief illness in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.

The top Yoruba monarch, who ruled for 52 years, is the third from the Alowodu Ruling House.

The funeral prayer conducted on the deceased before going for final interment by 4.00 p.m.

The prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Oyoland, Shelkh Moshood Ajokidero at exactly 11.55 p.m.

It was attended by Islamic clerics, sympathisers and some politicians.
