A magistrate’s court sitting in Jos Metropolitan Development Board, Plateau State, has revoked the bail granted to Noah Kekere, a quack doctor accused of organ harvesting in the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that revocation followed outcries from the Nigeria Police Force, the Plateau State Ministry of Justice and the Nassarawa Gwong community who had alleged complicity in granting the bail.
On Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Joseph Chollom heard Mr Kekere’s bail application and granted it.
Barely 48 hours after, the Plateau State Police Command rearrested Mr Kekere and arraigned him before the chief magistrate.
At the Thursday’ proceedings, the judge ordered Mr Kekere’s remand and two others who are suspected to be his accomplices.
Meanwhile, some of the victims of alleged organ harvesting and members of Yan’shanu Community in Jos have written a petition the chief judge of the state, accusing the magistrate of “short-circuiting of the wheels of justice”.
The petition signed by Buhari I. Shehu, expressed their dismay with the way Mr Chollom handled the case.
“It is our brief that neither the police nor the Ministry of Justice were put on notice of the application for bail of the suspects and that the application was not listed on the court cause list when the bail application was granted,” the petition read in part.
The petitioners, therefore, urged the chief judge to take all necessary steps at ensuring that the accused do not evade justice.
Mr Shehu stressed that Mr Chollom’s failure to abide by the rules of the court was a threat to justice system.
“His failure to act with circumspection is threatening the sanctity with which the judiciary is associated,” the petitioners told the CJ.
