By Rukayat Aliu- American rapper DMX has died after being taken off life support.
Recall that the rapper was hospitalized and in grave condition on April 2 after suffering a heart attack at his home.
Upon being admitted to White Plains Hospital in New York, DMX’s health was so critical that he was resuscitated and placed on life support and was reportedly deprived of oxygen for nearly 30 minutes.
On Wednesday, DMX remained on life support as he was still in a coma, five days after he was admitted at White Plains Hospital.
According to a report by PEOPLE magazine, the late rapper underwent a series of tests that revealed his level of brain function and activity following his heart attack which ultimately determined his family’s decision regarding his life support.
They wrote in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.
“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him.
“Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.
“We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.
“Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX.
“We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
The iconic rapper is survived by his mother, his children, and their mothers.
