Angry supporters of the People Democratic Party, PDP, have set ablaze a Hilux van belonging to the Nigeria Police Force in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident occured at a PDP campaign rally for the Jigawa North Central when the police fired teargas canisters to disperse party supporters fighting at the venue.
A witness who preferred anonymity said the incident went out of control when one of the canisters hit and injured one of the party supporters.
“PDP supporters alleged that the police was instructed by the APC administration to disrupt the rally,” he alleged.
“The party supporters became angry, fearing that the victim was dead.”
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that a former governor of the state, Sule Lamido, took over the microphone to appeal to the mob to stop.
The mob however ignored Mr Lamido’s appeal to stop until he reached the point of incident.
On January 9, police in Jigawa State had tear-gassed members of the PDP at a rally for allegedly holding campaign in Gumel without police approval.
