The Kano State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Abdullahi Abbas, has called for the arrest of former governor of the state and leader of the New Nigerian People Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr Abbas described the leader of the Kwankwassiyya Movement as a threat to the security of the state.

Mr Abbas stated this while reacting to the allegations made by Mr Kwankwaso on the Federal Government.

Recall that the NNPP leader had accused the federal government of breeding Boko Haram terrorists, and listening to enemies to destabilise the state.

But Mr Abbas called on security agencies to arrest the former for making unguarded allegations against the government.

He added that no amount of threat by Mr Kwankwaso could intimidate the federal government.

He said: “The embattled NNPP chieftain, who is visibly disturbed by the dismal performance of his protege in the last one year and frustratingly longing for control of Kano politics, should be arrested by security agents to tell who are those recruiting the Boko Haram terrorists.

“We want to call on security agents in the strongest terms to arrest this man so that he reveals the identity of those he referred to as enemies of the state working for the federal government to recruit Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents.’’

The chairman noted that the NNPP government has had sinister motives to foment trouble in Kano.

“Kwankwaso, for a long time, has been a security threat to Kano and the nation in view of his antecedents.

“He runs a movement in which he has been widely accused of recruiting youth, mostly school dropouts, to unleash terror on the people in the state,” he alleged.

Mr Abbas also alleged that before and during the 2023 election, thousands of youths were recruited and empowered to intimidate the unsuspecting public through physical attacks, destruction of seemingly opponents properties and snatching of mobile phones.

He added that since the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir, hundreds of weapon-brandishing thugs have been recruited, and stationed at the emir’s palace, where all sorts of illicit substances are openly being sold, posing a threat to residents within and around.
