Edo State Deputy Governor Phillip Shuaibu has called for the arrest of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole “for constantly disobeying the orders of the state government”.
Mr Shuaibu made the call while submitting a petition to the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Security Services.
He said, “I am in Abuja to meet with the IG. I have a petition to the IG and to the Director of DSS to the effect that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole be arrested by the Police and be arrested by the DSS for the breakdown of law and order that he has consistently perpetrated in Edo state.
“We banned rallies, the IG in a letter also suspended rallies. He disobeyed the orders of the state government, he disobeyed the orders of the IG and feels that he is above the law.”
Recall that Governor Godwin Obaseki had said that the antics allegedly being played out by Oshiomhole to create confusion in the politics of the state will fail.
Mr Obaseki who made the statement on Thursday, December 26, at the Owan West local government area of the state said the APC national chairman’s plans to create APC factions would fail since, “Oshiomhole no longer has the support of Edo people”.
According to him, the Edo APC is still intact, strong and united.
Mr Obaseki vowed to rid the APC of all those working to destabilise the party in the state, saying: “Members of the EPM are trying to frustrate the good plans we have for Edo people as their plan is to burn markets and government buildings.
“Their intention is to discredit our administration but the people of Edo know better.
“APC is one party; those that say they are in EPM are not APC, including their National Chairman who we have been suspended in Edo State.
“Those mistakenly elected into Edo State House of Assembly, EDHA, who are members of EPM have been thrown out and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is aware and will soon announce date for a fresh election, where we would have opportunity to elect credible representatives who will represent us in the House.
“Any person doing anti-party activities, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked us to deal with them. We have been told to go back to organise our party; that’s why we are here.
“As a ruling party in the state, we have done a lot for Edo people, moving the state forward progressively but EPM are afraid of progress and will do anything to ensure we don’t get another term.”
However Mr Oshiomhole, said that he wanted crisis in the party if they were all it takes to make the party victorious.
Mr Oshiomhole made the statement while hosting Kano State chapter of the party led by the state Governor, Umar Ganduje on Friday, January 31, in Abuja.
According to him, the crisis within the party has not stopped its victories in some elections recently conducted.
Mr Oshiomhole said he wouldn’t mind the continuation of crisis in APC if it would lead to electoral victories for the party in future elections.
