The national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka, has said it was not surprising that a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and serving senator representing Enugu East, Chimaroke Nnamani, made the list of the party presidential campaign council.
DAILY NIGERIAN had reported that the secretary of the Council, James Faleke, released the list of 422 members of the Campaign Council on Friday.
The list contains names of prominent chieftains and members of the APC, including President Muhammadu Buhari, all APC governors, serving and former ministers, and some members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party.
But surprisingly, the vice president’s name, Yemi Osinbajo, was missing from the list.
In what appears to be a surprise, Mr Nnamani a former governor of Enugu State, appeared on the list.
Even though he has not announced his exit from the PDP, the former Enugu governor had in August via his Twitter handle, wrote a long thread, eulogising the leadership qualities of APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.
Mr Nnamani who, like Mr Tinubu, served as governor from 1999 to 2007, said the APC candidate raised the bar of governance in Lagos state despite not receiving federal allocations.
He also chided those who mock the Mr Tinubu health status saying “I vigorously oppose, protest and detest the shameless campaigns and parodies targeting Tinubu’s health,”
But in a telephone interview with our correspondent, the APC national publicity secretary revealed that Mr Nnamani had not joined the party, saying the PDP chieftain only declared open support for Mr Bola Tinubu’s leadership qualities.
“Presidential campaign is not necessarily about party; it is for those who support the candidate. And if you have monitored Chimaroke’s statement recently, you know he’s been very supportive of our presidential candidate. He believes Asiwaju is excellent material, and has all the competencies that are required to serve the highest office of the land,” he said.
Mr Morka said even though he has not received confirmation from the presidential candidate, Mr Nnamani’s open support for Mr Tinubu might be the reason he was included in the campaign council.
