Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has won the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential ticket by scoring the largest number of votes – 1532 votes, beating Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State who scored 693 votes.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that over 4,000 delegates had participated in the party’s national convention which held from Saturday to Sunday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Following Mr Tambuwal closely was Senate President Bukola Saraki who scored 317 votes.

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso scored 158 votes.

The rest of the votes were shared between Dankwombo – 111, Sule Lamido – 96, Ahmed Makarfi – 74, Tanimu Turaki – 62, David Mark – 32, Jonah Jang – 19 and Datti Baba-Ahmed – 5 votes.

However, 68 votes were void.

Recall that immediately after the vote sorting was concluded, preliminary assessment of the sorting pattern by DAILY NIGERIAN showed Mr Abubakar’s agent, Dubem Onyia, received the highest votes cast by the delegates.

An agent of one of the low-scoring aspirants who spoke to DAILY NIGERIAN shortly after the conclusion of sorting, said the former vice president in a pole position to pick the ticket.

“From my observation, Atiku’s agent received the highest ballots during sorting. Tambuwal too received a lot of ballots. At the end of the day, it is either Atiku or Tambuwal,” he said.

Already party leaders have begun congratulating Mr Atiku as counting may start any moment.
