A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court on Friday sentenced a 53-year-old motorcyclist, Ayuba Ibrahim, to eight weeks in prison for picking passengers at unauthorised places.

Mr Ibrahim was sentenced and convicted for using unregistered and unlicensed motorcycle for commercial purposes.

He was, however, given the option of N4, 000 as fine and warned to be of good behaviour.

The Prosecutor, Idowu Lawal, had told the court that Ibrahim was arrested at Kubwa, Abuja, on February 14.

She said Ibrahim was apprehended while committing the said offences, which contravened Sections 4, 36, 68 and 7 of the Road Traffic Act‎.

She also told the court that Ibrahim failed to obey traffic notices and dropping and picking passengers at unauthorised places such as bank premises.

The prosecutor said that the accused also rode his motorcycle without a driver’s license and safety helmet.

Mr Ibrahim, who pleaded guilty, begged for leniency

The Judge, Mohammed Marafa, however, gave Ibrahim an option of N4, 000 fine and warned him to desist from committing such acts.
