A serving Army Major General, Jafaru Mohammed of the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has distanced himself from forfeited assets.
Mr Mohammed through his lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, said some media outfits wrongly misquoted a judgment of a Federal High Court which absolved his client.
Justice Nkeonye Evelyn Maha of the Federal High Court had in her judgment noted that the EFCC in an ex-parte application alleged that one General Aminu Kano rtd and his proxies and associates acquired some assets and properties and that the properties are proceeds of unlawful activity.
“From the records before me, I find that the Respondent (that is, EFCC) filed an Ex-parte application alleging that one General Aminu Kano (Rd) and his proxies/associates acquired some assets and properties situated in different parts of Nigeria and that those properties are proceeds of unlawful activity. I observed that the name of Gen. Jafaru Mohammed was never mentioned in the originating Ex-parte application. The Respondent did not rebut this fact,” the lawyer quoted the judgement.
The lawyer described the media stories which linked the forfeited properties to Mr Mohammed as false and malicious, saying nowhere in the Certified True Copy of the judgement made available to the public the properties were linked to the general or owned by his proxies.
