Lawyers of Abubakar Musa-Abubakar, the embattled ex-husband of Nasiba Dauda, the daughter of Kaduna business mogul Sani Dauda, have broken silence on his estranged marriage with Nasiba.

Mr Abubakar had allegedly ordered the arrest of Mr Dauda; Kaduna State Sharia Court judge, Murtala Nasir; Shehu Dauda and the groom, Abdullahi Kumali.

Recall that on Tuesday, at about 4:00 PM, the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, attached to the Kaduna State Police Command had arrested Mr Dauda and the three others, claiming that they were acting on an order from the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

On Tuesday, after the arrest, Nasiba told DAILY NIGERIAN that Mr Abubakar had been threatening to use his connections with the IGP Adamu to harass and frustrate her family for divorcing him.

According to her, in the five months she was married to Mr Abubakar, she never knew peace.

“In the five months we stayed as husband and wife, he made me pass through various degrees of emotional turmoil.

“He would insult me and insult my parents. I think he just has this hatred for my father.

“I opted for a divorce after having discovered that things were not going to work out for the two of us.

“I then approached the Shari’a Court for the divorce and tendered his N50,000 dowry to the court.

“The court invited him but he refused to show up. However, his lawyer was present when I tendered the dowry.

“Despite all these, up to the time I am speaking with you, he has refused to allow me to pack my properties worth over N30million at his house,” Nasiba disclosed.

Abubakar reacts

In a telephone chat with DAILY NIGERIAN on Wednesday, one of Mr Abubakar’s lawyers, Rilwan Umar, refuted Nasiba’s allegations, saying that there was no iota of truth in her claims.

He added that there was no any sinister relationship between himself and the IGP.

“IGP has many friends and associates which I happen to be one of them. So what if I am IGP’s friend? Is IGP not a human being like any other person?” the lawyer asked.

Mr Umar also said that there was a petition he submitted to the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Ali Janga, on November 12, accusing Nasiba of defaming his character on social media.

The petition, as obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN, reads: “That the said Nasiba Sani Dauda took to her Twitter Handle ‘chibus_enterprise’ at about 4:47pm on the 11th day of November, 2019 and made several and lots of defamatory accusations against the person of our client with damaging statement, this caused our client a lot of embarrassment and injuries to his personality and reputation.

“The said publications made by Nasiba Sani Dauda constituted an offence of criminal defamation…”

How it all started

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that trouble started when the 25-year-old Nasiba sought a divorce at the Kaduna State Sharia Court.

Thereafter, when the Sharia Court granted Nasiba’s divorce request, Mr Abubakar, however, objected to the judgment and approached the appellate court for a succour.

Another petition obtained by this newspaper revealed that the marriage between the duo was actually estranged and the two parties had approached different courts for a leeway.

Mr Abubakar’s lawyer told DAILY NIGERIAN that the Upper Sharia Court, Kawo, Kaduna set aside the decision of the Grade 1 Sharia Court Tudun Wada, Kaduna on grounds of lack of jurisdiction.

The lawyer said: “Ever since the judgement of the Upper Sharia Court, Kawo, Kaduna, there is no any other judgement of the Appellate Court or any other superior court setting aside the judgement of the Upper Sharia Court, Kawo, Kaduna.

“The said judgement is the only valid and subsisting judgement.

“As a result of the Judgement of the Upper Sharia Court, Kawo, Kaduna, we had filed a suit in Abuja before the Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, FCT in respect of the said marriage and the case is still pending and not determined.

“Nasiba, through her lawyers, appealed to the Sharia Court of Appeal, Kaduna since in the year 2018 and the said appeal is still pending and not determined by the Sharia Court of Appeal, Kaduna up till today.

“In September, Nasiba equally through her lawyers filed another case before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja in respect of the said marriage and the said case is still pending and not determined by the FCT. High Court.

“While all the above cases are still pending at various courts in both Abuja and Kaduna, on Saturday, November 9, Nasiba’s family contracted another marriage with my wife.

“While the wedding was about to take place, one Usman Abdullahi Tela went to the venue and called the attention of the people complained against that that marriage about to be conducted/contracted is illegal due to the fact that Nasiba is still married and none of the court cases have been determined.

“Immediately, Alhaji Sani Dauda called two policemen to arrest and they indeed arrested Usman Tela and whisked him away.

“While in detention, Nasiba’s brother came and was criminally assaulting Usman Abdullahi Tela.”
