The House Committee on Public Account and Anti-Corruption, Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday, urged the state government to adopt digital record keeping in paying workers’ salaries.
This is to enable government tackle corruption in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.
The advice followed the adoption of the report of the committee at the plenary on alleged 29 queries in 2015 Audit report.
The adoption of the report also followed a motion moved by the Chairman of the Committee, Atiku Liman.
Mr Liman said “Our recommendations include the following; That government must abolish the analogue system of record keeping and adopt digital system for easy retrieval of data, especially in payment of salaries.
“That all queries relating to Ministries of Agriculture, Justice, Social Welfare, Budget and Economic Planning, Environment, Youths and Sports Development and Finance had been reviewed and closed,’’ he said.
Mr Liman said that the committee also recommended that MDAs must render quarterly returns on government vehicles to the office of the Auditor-General.
He said the committee also recommended that Ministries and Departments with monthly impress of not less than N500, 000 must open and maintain a bank account for the purpose.
Mr Liman said that the committee also recommended that efforts be made to ensure that the local government education authority and local government council’s water rate deductions were sent directly to the state Treasury Single Account, TSA.
The Speaker, Salihu Maidaji, said the recommendations had been considered and approved accordingly and members unanimously accepted the motion in a vote.
