The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has awarded a N200,000 scholarship each to two brilliant indigent students of Bayero University, Kano, BUK.
A statement jointly signed by Sagir Saleh, acting chairman and; Kabiru Isa, secretary of the branch, said the gesture is under the ASUU’s Scholarship Scheme.
The award was presented to the beneficiaries at a ceremony, held at the ASUU-BUK Secretariat, Old Campus on Wednesday.
The aim of the scheme, according to ASUU, is to support brilliant students who come from a very humble background across all the branches of the union.
“Each of the awardees, who were selected following a meticulous screening exercise, received the sum of 200,000.00.
“The award was presented to the beneficiaries by the acting chairperson, ASUU-BUK, Dr Sagir Saleh, on behalf of the ASUU president, Emmanuel Victor Osodoke.
“Hopefully, this gesture will go a long way in assuaging the financial burden on these students,” ASUU said in the statement.
