Baiwa Foundation for Human Development has commenced mobilising support for victims of a gunpowder explosion that reportedly killed four and injured over 40 people in Talata Mafara weekly market in Zamfara State.

Speaking during an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN on Wednesday, the founder, Mikailu Barau, said the foundation appointed Hassan Isah-Jafar to lead a committee of five men for canvassing and delivering the support to the victims.

According to him, the foundation has made a seed donation of N250,000 and outlined effective strategies to raise funds and support the victims.

“The Foundation has also appointed Mal. Hassan Isah Jafar to lead a committee of five on the initiative of canvassing and delivering the support,” Mr Barau said.

He explained that the committee would report its activities through the widely followed social media handles of the foundation for accountability as well as work with the government on mitigation.

Commenting on the overall incident, Mr Barau lamented the risk of selling gunpowder in a congested local market and the lack of a reliable referral hospital in a town as big as Talata Mafara for the victims.

He also prayed for a quick recovery for the victims of the incident and repose for the souls of those who lost their lives.
