Amed bandits have unleashed a week-long reign of terror in Birnin Gwari general area, terrorising communities, kidnaping commuters and residents.
Birnin-Gwari has been under constant attacks by gunmen, leading to bloodshed, abductions and destruction of property.
On May 14, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai ordered troops to flush out bandits within three weeks, but the attacks continued despite military presence.
On Sunday, Ibrahim Nagwari, the chairman of Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance, raised fresh alarm over bandit’s week-long terror in the community.
“Birnin-Gwari is once again under siege of merciless kidnappers for the past one week, despite military onslaught in Zamfara State and Birnin-Gwari general area.
“Armed bandits had on Monday 10th September 2018, kidnapped a Staff of NTA Kaduna, Yahaya Isa and his wife and his cousin Sama’ila Buhari and another married woman (Ummah).
“The Kidnappers has cut the line of communication for the past 72 hours after deadlock on mode of ransom payment.
“More worrisome is the kidnapping of Barrister Salisu Haruna (a staff of Kaduna State House of Assembly), who was kidnapped yesterday (Saturday) around 3pm around Kuriga along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highways.
“While others that were together with Barrister Salisu were rescued by the police, he was unlucky to fell into the hands of another group of armed bandits as he was trying to escape.
“The kidnappers had placed a tag of N10million on Barrister Salisu.
“On the staff of NTA kidnapped a week ago, negotiation on ransom met brick wall and so there is uncertainty over safety.
“Last week, a former chairman of Birnin-Gwari local government, miraculously escaped from the hands of kidnappers after overpowering them.
“The security situation has worsened in Birnin-Gwari with pockets of Kidnappings around Layin-Lassan, Layin-Mahuta (Tabanni), Maganda and southern part of Birnin-Gwari neighboring Niger State.
“We are calling on the security agencies to as a matter of urgency wade into the matter and rescue all those kidnapped by armed bandits within Birnin-Gwari general area.
“Equally, we urged the military, the police and other security personnel to storm all identify all escaped routes of armed bandits from Zamfara state.
“We would like to register our dismay on the government of Kaduna State for keeping mum on the serious security situation in Birnin-Gwari local government area.
“We are indeed citizens of the state and our security of our lives and property constitutionally lie with the government of the day in Kaduna State,” Mr Nagwari added.
