Bangladesh is in the peak of dengue season with 32,340 cases reported in 2019 as of Wednesday, tripling the figure of 2018 reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The Directorate, which is under the Ministry of Health, said a total of 2,428 cases of dengue including 1,153 in capital Dhaka were reported in the last 24 hours untill Wednesday 8:00 a.m. (local time).
Against this backdrop, hospitals and clinics in Dhaka specially are now crammed with dengue patients.
According to the figure reported by the DGHS, from Aug. 1 to Aug.7, no fewer than 15,879 more dengue cases were recorded after 16,253 people were infected with the mosquito-borne disease in July.
The number of patients was 10,148 in 2018 and 26 of them died.
The Bangladeshi government on Tuesday confirmed another five deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since January to 23.
The death includes two in April, three in June, 15 in July and three in August.
The country’s health authorities have already strengthened measures to check breeding of mosquitoes and conduct anti larval operations.
