The Bauchi State Commissioner of Water Resources, Abdulrazak Nuhu Zaki, has confessed to allegation of child abduction levelled against him by his ex-wife Ikilima Soro.
Mrs Soro had petitioned the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun that her child was abducted in Bauchi while going to school on the morning of January 20, 2025.
She alleged that masked policemen, using a car with hidden number plate, stopped the school bus conveying the child to school, forcefully seized the girl and zoomed off.
Admitting to journalists in Bauchi at the weekend, Mr Nuhu said his son and policemen attached to him carried out the abduction two weeks ago.
The commissioner who claimed that the state governor, Bala Mohammed and the Bauchi Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed encouraged him to carry out the abduction, saying his action was backed upper sharia court ruling transferring the custody of the child to him from his ex-wife.
But the state high court, which is higher than the sharia court, has commenced the process of committing the commissioner, alongside the commissioner of police, to prison for violating its ruling mandating the parties to maintain status quo until the final determination of the matter before the sharia court of appeal.
