The Bauchi State commissioner for Finance, Nura Manu-Soro, has announced his resignation over alleged disagreement with the governor over security vote expenditures.
On October 6, the state governor, Bala Mohammed, swore-in 20 commissioners and members of the State Executive Council, with Mr Manu-Soro getting the ‘lofty’ finance ministry.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Manu-Soro announced his resignation on Wednesday on his Facebook page, saying he would issue a statement on the resignation.
“I have resigned my position as Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance and Member of the State Executive Council. I will issue a press statement later on the situation InshaAllah,” he posted.
Although Mr Manu-Soro did not respond to our reporter’s phone calls, insiders however told DAILY NIGERIAN that the resignation might not be unconnected with a disagreement over security vote expenditure.
“You know governors spend money direct from the treasury in the name of security. So Nura appears unyielding to some of the governor’s demands.
“When the governor decided to deploy him to another ministry, he got angry and announced his resignation.
“Nura was one of the key pillars of the Kaura campaign, and he spent huge amount of money on the campaign,” said a source familiar with the development.
The Bauchi State commissioner for Information, Ladan Salihu, neither responded to DAILY NIGERIAN phone calls nor text message seeking reaction of the government on Mr Manu-Soro’s resignation over security vote expenditure.
The state government later issued a statement, saying it effected minor cabinet reshuffle.
In the statement, Mr Manu-Soro was redeployed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, while Umar Adamu from Ministry of Water resources is now to take charge of Ministry of Finance.
Jadauna Tula who was in charge of ministry of cooperatives is now in charge of Ministry of Water resources.
Usman Saleh from Ministry of Youth and Sports is now to head Ministry of small and medium scale enterprises.
