The Bauchi State Head of Civil Service Liman Bello on Wednesday said the state government would take action against absentee civil servants.
Addressing journalists after paying an unscheduled visit to Solid Minerals, Scholarship Board, Ministries of Environment, Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Center, the head of service expressed unhappiness over the level of workers’ turnout, particularly all the directors in such places.
Mr Bello explained that such unscheduled visits are to serve as a warning signal to all civil servants, saying that some officers may fall victim of the exercise if workers failed to change their attitude.
The head of service pointed out that since workers have been paid their salaries to work, then there is no reason for them to stay back at home, leaving the work to suffer.
While ordering the absentee directors to report to his office for further action, he said he would continue to pay such unscheduled visits to ensure that state civil servants justify their salaries.
Our correspondent reports that the head of Civil service was at the Solid Minerals at 8:20am but only the managing director and the accountant were present, while the two directors were not on seat.
At the Scholarship Board, the staff officer was the only senior officer found as all the four directors were absent.
At the Ministry of Environment, by 8:30am, it was gathered that all the three directors were not on seat, while at the Social Welfare, the three directors were not on seat as at 8:55am and the most senior officer found on duty at the Rehabilitation Center was the senior admin officer who conducted the head of service round.
Meanwhile, the head of civil service has inspected the on-going training exercise at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Media Center for selected personnel that will perform the computerization/ Data capturing exercise for the state civil servants and pensioners.
He urged them to have fear of Allah in their mind, saying if one of them is corrupt then it would affect the whole exercise.
