The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Sunusi Gumau, has disclosed that the polytechnic has established contacts with four prominent Nigerian institutions namely, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Maiduguri and Nigerian Depence Academy with a view to introducing 17 degree programs in the school.
Speaking today during the 2017/2018 matriculation ceremony of new students, the rector explained that the new degree programs included degrees in Mass Communication, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture and Estate Management and evaluation.
Others, according to him, include Quantity surveying, computer science, Medical Science laboratory, Mathematics and Statistics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration and Management and Public administration.
Mr Gumau, who revealed that 8,409 applicants were admitted into the polytechnic this year, said only 4,990 however registered.
Also speaking, the polytechnic registrar Rakiya Maleka explained that before their matriculation the students underwent three days orientation In the school where they were enlightened on the rules, regulations and code of conduct of the institution.
Ms Maleka, represented by her deputy, Abdullahi Garba, cautions matriculating students on teacher-student relationship.
“No student should offer bribe or sex to a lecturer in order to obtain better grades. The student also has a right to report to the school authority any attempt to collect bribe from them, and should report any sexual harassment to the school authority,” she urged students.
