Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has described the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the just-concluded gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States as historic and a watershed for meaningful socio-economic progress in these states.
The governor, in a statement on Monday by his Director-General, Press Affairs, Abdullahi Bego, congratulated President Muhammad Buhari and the APC for the massive endorsement the people of Bayelsa and Kogi gave the party.
According to him, these endorsements were made possible by the trajectory of the APC-led leadership under the President.
The governor particularly rejoiced with Governor-Elect David Lyon and with the people of Bayelsa State for proving that “change” was possible.
According to him, Bayelsa is now poised for meaningful socio-economic progress after having been left behind for many years under successive PDP-led administrations.
Similarly, Mr Buni rejoiced with Governor Yahaya Bello for his re-election in Kogi State, saying that the victory of the APC in the state was an endorsement of the policies and values of the party in the state.
“I have been following the governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States since people began piling to the polling stations to cast their votes on Saturday,” he stated.
Governor Buni, who was a former national secretary of the APC, salutes the electorate in the two states for their resilience and active participation in the elections despite pockets of untoward incidence.
He described the voter participation in the two states as testament to the growth and flowering of democracy in the country.
The governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for ensuring that the elections were conducted successfully.
“I pray to almighty Allah (SWT) to grant the two governors-elect the strength and wisdom to successfully steer the affairs of their states for the next four years,” he said.
