Thirty-year-old Bello Shagari has emerged the president of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, in a keenly contested election in Gombe State.
Mr Shagari, who is the first president from the North West, beat his close rival Mustapha Abdullahi by 8 votes.
Announcing the result, the chairman of the NYCN electoral committee said a total of 505 delegates were accredited.
Mr Shagari polled 249 votes, while Mustapha Asuku got 241.
Fifteen votes were declared invalid.
“With the power vested on the Chairman of the Electoral Committee of NYCN Convention 2018, having satisfied the requirement of Law and has the highest number of votes, Bello Shagari is therefore declared winner of the Presidential election.” the electoral committee chairman stated.
Observers have generally praised the election, and have adjudged it as free and fair.
