Benue LG staff commits suicide over unpaid salaries

Aondona Yaga, a staff of a Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, has committed suicide Tuesday morning after he allegedly took ill and had no money to treat himself.

According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, the young Aondoana, a casual staff of the local government, was said to have not been paid for sometimes now, a situation that made life difficult for him.

A local in the area who simply identified himself as John said that the young man who until his death lived in a thatched house in Aliade decided to end his life when he thought that there was no hope for him.

“He was a casual worker and we learned that he and his other colleagues were yet to be paid their allowance for sometimes now.

“And when there was no way out, he decided to end it all by setting himself ablaze,” Mr John said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Catherine Anene, confirmed the report, saying that the incident happened around 8:00 on Tuesday morning.
