Eight people have died after a passenger boat capsized with about 21 passengers on board in the Shani Local Government Area of Borno State.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the incident occurred around 7:00 pm on Thursday when the passengers were coming from a market in a nearby Buma Village.
A member of the state House of Assembly, Ibrahim Musa, who is representing Shani Constituency, told our correspondent that said about six bodies had been found, adding that search was still ongoing for the remaining victims.
He disclosed that the incident happened as a result of heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
Mr Musa added that the state government had sent a delegation to sympathize with the families of the deceased.
According to the lawmaker, the state government has promised to support the families of the victims.
“My prayer is that may Allah forgive the deceased, grant them Aljannat Firdaus, and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Mr Musa said.
