The Chief Executive of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, has advised Nigerian scholars to prioritize researches on the areas of Climate Change, Public Health and Information and Communications Technology, ICT.
Mr Bokoro gave the advice on Monday during his official visit to the Morgan State University, MSU, in the United States where he went to discuss partnership on training Nigerian scholars in Postgraduate Studies.
According to him, the three areas are key to the welfare of the contemporary world.
He said: “I am not saying that other areas are not important, but the areas I mentioned are now so important to the extent that no country will dare joke with them, if it wants to bid farewell now and also have a robust future.
“That is the reason TETFUND is not mincing words when it comes to Research and Development.”
Mr Bogoro noted that TETFUND’s partnership with MSU has “yielded great results, considering the vivacity of our scholars and the quality research they are conducting in various areas.
“We are thankful to MSU and we are proud of the scholars. I am very sure that what they are doing will be beneficial to Nigeria.”
In his remark, the MSU president, David Wilson, who was represented by his deputy, noted that,
Mr Wilson said: “When it comes to number of international students in MSU, no country comes close to Nigeria. And Nigerian students are among our brightest. They represent their nation superbly.”
According to Mr Wilson, the university will continue to work hard to make sure that it fulfils its own part of the MoU [signed with TETFUND].
“We are glad that it has already brought out excellent results. We will keep aiming for excellence,” he added.
During the session, 17 Nigerian PhD candidates at the institution gave insights into the research they are respectively conducting.
Among them was Ba’aba Suleja from Federal University, Dutse. The topic of his research is: “Impacts of Audit Firm Tenure on Financial Reporting Quality.”
