Suspected members of Boko Haram on Wednesday night attacked two communities, Sabon Gari and Kafin Hausa, both in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa state, officials have said.
The attack came barely five days after the terrorists launched attack on the neighbouring Gulak town, the administrative headquarters of Madagali, where a soldier and two people lost their lives.
Confirming the Wednesday ’s attack, a member representing Madagali, Michika at the House of Reps, Adamu Kamale, said the onslaught lasted for about two hours and the terrorists killed even livestock, looted and burnt many houses.
“I had a distress call that they have again launched night attack at Sabon Gari and Kafin Hausa villages. As I am talking to you now, Nigerian troops have engaged them in a fierce battle,” he said.
Also confirming in a telephone interview, the state governor Jibrilla Bindow said a joint operation of the Nigerian troops and local security members of vigilante and hunters repelled the attack.
“Yes there was a fierce battle that lasted for an hour but praise be to Allah, the attack launched by fleeing Boko Haram terrorists on Sabon Gari and the other village in Madagali local government area were repelled by a combine forces of soldiers, Mobile police, hunters and vigilantes.
‘’Security are on top of the situation now,” Mr Bindow assured.
Reports say a fleeing villager, simply identified as Musa, said the terrorists shot sporadically before they were engaged.
However, for now no details on loss of life as security sources hinted that many may feared dead including soldiers.
