Following the successes of the Nigerian troops in dealing blows on Boko Haram terrorists in Borno and Yobe States, the insurgents are reportedly fleeing to Adamawa State, local sources have said.

It was gathered that in the recent times there were pockets of Boko Haram attacks and abduction of women, particularly in the recaptured villages of Madagali and Michika Local Government Areas.

A member representing Madagali/Michika Federal Constituency, Adamu Kamale, said a series of attacks and abductions by the fleeing Boko Haram terrorists recently calls for action.

“Just last week, three young women were abducted while working in their farms. As I am talking to you, more than 100 women kidnapped by the Boko Haram in recent times are still under their custody in Sambisa Forest.

“We had reported the matter to the authorities several times but nothing has been done to rescue these women.

“Whether there are fleeing or no fleeing insurgents into the area, the area has not known peace and the people have been languishing in pains because of the insurgents’ incessant killings and abduction of young women in the area,” he added.

Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council Muhammed Yusuf said they were alerted that the terrorists are fleeing into Madagali, which is contiguous to Borno town of Gwoza – the stronghold of the insurgents.

‘’I want to call on the security agencies to tighten security in Madagali in order to prevent the insurgents from entering the town and the state.

‘’Even before now, already there were insurgents terrorizing and molesting our people for five years now.

“We already have some insurgents in Sambisa Forest few meters to Madagali that we are managing and trying to wipe out. Allowing more to join the ones we have will worsen the situation,” he said.

He urged the security operatives manning the entry routes to do a thorough check on motorists and passengers coming out of Borno and Yobe states into other states.

Mr Yusuf also commended the military for launching fierce offensive on the insurgents, saying if the tempo would be sustained, Boko Haram would be a thing of the past.

Spokesman for the 28 Task Force Brigade in Mubi, Badare Akintoye, could not be reached on phone for comments as at the time of filing this report.
