Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday attacked the city of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, when resident were preparing for Iftar (fast breaking feast).

Residents of the city said the attack occurred in Jiddari Polo area of the metropolis, causing .

In a series of Facebook post, a Maiduguri resident, Mohammed Said, narrated what transpired during the attack.

“Many residents inside the city of Maiduguri have this night become internally displaced persons. They will not sleep inside their homes.

“For the first time since the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the inhabitants of Maiduguri are running for dear life.

“A sustained gun battle and RPG fire is currently underway around Jiddari Polo area.
The infiltration of the city by the Boko Haram elements has now put a lie to the claim of military defeat of Boko Haram as a fighting force.

“They have brought the fight to the capital city, to the place where the 7th division is domiciled.
Many residents have not broken their fast. They remain indoors in lying positions as they watch the fire of bullets and rockets buzz dangerously past them!

“It has been over eight weeks since when we have stopped receiving updates of the exploits if the Army against the insurgents.

“It has been three months many soldiers have not received their allowances.  Buratai, the presidency are also failing us. What a pity!

“The sounds of gunshots are no now. It took reinforcements and the Air Force jets to subdue the terrorists,” he wrote.

Nigerian Army is yet to respond to the incident.
