Borno govt signs N10bn MoU for 7.26km road

Borno Government has signed a N10.9 billion Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with Dan Nene Construction Company for the construction of three major roads of about 7.26 kilometers in the state.

Mustapha Gubio, the state commissioner for Works and Housing, announced this during the signing of the MoU on Saturday in Maiduguri.

He said the project was aimed at decongesting Maiduguri city and expanding it for development.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 3.5 km of the road project would pass through the Shehu Umar Garbai and Bursari Road from Shehu roundabout to link Baga Road at the state mechanical workshop.

The second road measuring 2.4 kilometers would pass through Monday Market roundabout to Budum roundabout and Kofa Biyu.

The third one, Sultan Maimalari road  measuring 1.5 km, is from Idrissa Khadi junction to Sir Kashim Ibrahim Way through Budum roundabout.

Mr Gubio said a down payment of 40 per cent contract sum had already been paid to the contractor.

He assured that as the work progresses, subsequent payments would be made on the presentation of valuation duly vetted by engineers on site.

The commissioner said with the 40 per cent down payment, it was expected that much progress would be achieved within a short period of time as well as timely completion of the projects.

He said that out of the contractors that bid for the project, Dan Nene Construction Company was found most suitable for the job.

He called on the company to ensure the completion of the project within the stipulated period of eight months and to adhere strictly to its specification.

He urged the consultants and engineers as well as stakeholders to always be on site to ensure that quality and standard were strictly adhered.

Mr Gubio thanked Gov. Babagana Zulum of the state for his developmental effort and for giving the ministry the necessary support and timely release of funds for execution of various projects in the state.

The representative of the Construction Company, Li Chao, lauded Borno Government for finding the company worthy to be awarded the contract and assured that it would adhere strictly to the project specification.

He also assured that the project would be completed within the time frame given for its completion.
