What would have otherwise been a devastating suicide bomb attack on a mosque in Gashua village in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe state has been successfully foiled by vigilant worshipers on Sunday.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the female Boko Haram suicide bomber had infiltrated the mosque, while members were about to commence a prayer session but was detected while struggling to detonate a suicide vest strapped to her body.
“She was quickly restrained by the locals, arrested and handed over to troops at Azare,” Onyema Nwachukwu, spokesman for Operation Lafiya Dole, said.
“Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Component of Operation Lafiya Dole at the location have safely defused the suicide vest, while the suicide bomber is currently receiving medical attention due to injuries sustained during her arrest.”
On Friday, the Nigerian Army killed two female suicide bombers who attempted to infiltrate troops in Kawuri, in Konduga Local Government Area.
The suicide bombers had used the cover of darkness to stalk the military camp at about 9.45 pm, but were promptly detected by the vigilant troops who engaged them when they refused to comply with their order.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the suicide vests detonated immediately, killing the two suicide bombers while the second suicide vest failed to detonate.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, team had also safely detonated the suicide vest.
