A suicide bomber and a volunteer security guard died on Tuesday in failed attempt to bomb a congregation of Muslim worshippers in Dalori area on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

The attack occurred at 5:40am when the security guard stopped the suicide bomber from gaining access into the mosque.

“When the security guard overpowered the child suicide bomber, he detonated the bomb,” one of the worshippers told our reporter.

Police later confirmed the incident and issued the following terse statement:

Today at about 0522hrs, a male suicide bomber detonated IED strapped to his body near a mosque at Dalori Quarters situated along Maiduguri/Konduga/Bama road, killing himself and a civilian JTF operative was  preventing the suicide bomber from getting close to or access the mosque where many faithfuls in the locality were observing their early morning prayers. EOD personnel of the command, have since swept the scene and rendered it safe, while normalcy has returned to the area.”
