A former minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, has emerged the new President of the Senate after defeating his opponent, Abdul’aziz Yari on Tuesday.

Mr Akpabio, who was anointed by the ruling APC, was returned elected as President of the 10th Senate after scoring 63 votes defeating Senator Yari who scored 46 votes.

Declaring the results, the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal, said the former minister scored 63 votes leaving his rival to 46 votes.

Before the commencement of voting, Mr Akpabio was nominated by the senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, while Mr Yari was nominated by the senator representing Adamawa North, Elisha Abbo.
