At least 27 people have been killed by cattle rustlers in Zanuka village of Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the bandits, who attempted to rustle cows in the village, were earlier repelled on Friday afternoon by the local vigilante.
“After the vigilante repelled and killed some of them, the bandits regrouped in the night and returned to the village.
“So far we counted bodies of 27 victims of the attack,” said a community leader who preferred not to named.
Speaking to DAILY NIGERIAN on phone, police spokesman in the state, Mohammed Shehu, however said only 15 people killed in the attack.
“Our official records show 15 people died. The quick response of the police actually minimized the casualty,” he said.
Zanuka village is contiguous to Bawar Daji village, where the attackers killed 60 persons killed in two separate attacks in March.
