The embattled senator representing Kogi West on the platform of the All Progressives Party, APC, Dino Melaye, has dumped his party for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to The Nation, Mr Melaye announced his ‘defection’ on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, asking that he be offered seat in the “opposition wing”.
Mr Melaye, who attended the Senate plenary on Wednesday after some weeks absence, raised a point of order thanking his colleagues, members of the House of Representatives, his constituents and all who stood by him in his trying times.
He also thanked the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for their support.
The embattled senator therefore asked the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to mandate the sergeant-at-arms to create a seat for him at the opposition wing of the chamber.
