Six members of Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday defected from ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The decamped lawmakers are members representing Gwarzo, Gwale, Gezawa, Rogo, Madobi and Bichi local government areas of Kano state.
Recall that DAILY NIGERIAN reported that following the defection of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso to the PDP, it was believed that such development would be replicated in the local politics of the states from where these defected senators emanated.
Going by this political permutation, already, there were strong indications that in Kano State Assembly, about six members who are considered long-standing allies of Mr Kwankwaso are likely to follow him to the PDP in a matter of days, an insider told DAILY NIGERIAN.
According to the source, the members are Hamza Sule, representing Bichi, Rabiu Sale Gwarzo, representing Gwarzo, Yusuf Falgore, representing Rogo, Yusuf Babangida, representing Gwale, Isyaku Danja, representing Gezawa and Zubairu Mamuda, representing Madobi constituency.
Recall that Mr Kwankwaso, who represents Kano Central in the Senate, is not only a senator but also a leader of a political movement that has held sway in the politics of the state and across the country, a red-capped movement popularly called Kwankwasiyya.
However, while reacting to the pre-emptive social media rumours on the issue on Tuesday, the Majority Leader of the state assembly, Muhammad Bello Butu-butu, had described the development as baseless, unfounded and the figment imagination of some mischievous people who wanted to cause confusion in the state.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake news being circulated on the social media that our APC members have defected to the PDP.
“The story is not true but a calculated attempt by some unpatriotic elements to cause confusion in the state,” he said.
The majority leader noted that even though six members of the House were still loyal to former governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso but they are still members of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He, therefore, advised people of the state to ignore the social media stories being concocted by unpatriotic elements with the aim of disrupting the peace in the state.
