Gunmen on Monday shot dead a police sergeant and abducted a German engineer with construction giants, Dantata and Sawoe, in Kano.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that about a week ago, gunmen killed a Syrian businessman and abducted his teenage son in Kano.
But witnesses said the latest incident occurred around 8am on Monday at Madobi Road when three gunmen, in a black Volks Wagen Golf, shot a policeman guarding the expatriate.
“The gunmen first fired shots randomly, causing commotion.
“They then shot the policeman, who was giving cover to the engineer and abducted their target.
“A stray bullet also hit passerby and was taken to hospital,” said a witness, Mallam Lawan.
Spokesman for Kano Police Command Magaji Majia, confirmed the incident, saying police have launched manhunt for the gunmen.
According to police, the attackers ambushed the vehicle of the Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company, abducted Micheal Cremza and killed the police sergeant attached to Special Protection Unit on escort duty.
Mr Majia, a superintendent of police, said Police Commissioner Rabiu Yusuf had deployed a team of operatives and detectives to cordon the axis with a view to arresting the culprits and rescue the victim.
