BREAKING: INEC declares Fintiri winner of Adamawa governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the winner of the governorship election in the state.

Recall that the election ran into a rerun due to the margin of votes.

According to the figures announced on March 20, Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had 390,275 votes, while Mr Fintiri got 421,524 votes.

After the rerun on Saturday, the collation of the results was suspended on Sunday, following the controversy surrounding the declaration of Mrs Binani as the winner of the election in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Barr. Yunusa Ari, had made the declaration midstream into the collation and was suspended thereafter.

Declaring the freshly collated results on Tuesday, the returning officer of the election, Prof. Muhammed Mele, Mr Fintiri as the winner of the election.

According to him, the incumbent governor polled a total of 430,861 votes to beat his closest rival, Mrs Binani of the APC who got a total of 396788 votes.
