Kano State government has reopened Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo Boarding Secondary School, Kano shut over alleged sexual assault on the male students of the school by some unidentified persons in October last year.
In October last year, a report aired on a Kano private radio station, Freedom Radio, on the series of sodomy cases in the school, had sparked outrage and forced the state government to shut the school and set up an investigation panel.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the state government reached the decision to reopen the school after weekly Executive Council Meeting (EXCO) today.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the state commissioner of Information, Mohammed Garba, said government reached the decision after reviewing the panel report and police report into the matter.
The commissioner said conditions were given to the school to inculcate moral teachings in the students, employ enough guards and install CCTV cameras to monitor activities in the school.
He also said the state government had withdrawn its decision to pay N40 million in settling WAEC/NECO fees of the 70 students of the school.
It may be recalled that the state police command had also dragged the school management to court, but withdrew the case earlier this week.
In December, the state government ordered for the closure of the school after the submission of the panel report.
