BREAKING: Kano government reopens Hassan Gwarzo College shut after sodomy case

News Desk

Kano State government has reopened Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo Boarding Secondary School, Kano shut over alleged sexual assault on the male students of the school by some unidentified persons in October last year.

In October last year, a report aired on a Kano private radio station, Freedom Radio, on the series of sodomy cases in the school, had sparked outrage and forced the state government to shut the school and set up an investigation panel.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the state government reached the decision to reopen the school after weekly Executive Council Meeting (EXCO) today.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the state commissioner of Information, Mohammed Garba, said government reached the decision after reviewing the panel report and police report into the matter.

The commissioner said conditions were given to the school to inculcate moral teachings in the students, employ enough guards and install CCTV cameras to monitor activities in the school.

He also said the state government had withdrawn its decision to pay N40 million in settling WAEC/NECO fees of the 70 students of the school.

It may be recalled that the state police command had also dragged the school management to court, but withdrew the case earlier this week.

In December, the state government ordered for the closure of the school after the submission of the panel report.

  • This Is A Very Good And Justly Take. I Know Hassan Gwarzo College. By Allah Nothing Of That Nature Happened. It’s Mere Allegation By Some Enemies. In Kano, No Boarding School Gives Or Rather Teaches Good Morals Better Than Hassan Gwarzo. Go And See Their Schedule Of Programmes. Allah Ya Kiyaye Faruwar Makamancin Wannan Rudani A Nan Gaba.

Is that all? Honestly I don’t think justice has been served on this case. What will happen to the abused young men now? Who will take responsibility of the abused these innocent boys suffer now? I feel the state government is deliberately being evasive with the truth of the matter and the necessary action needed to make sure the abused are treated justly. These are basically my thoughts though. But I believe no one will dispute the fact that this case needs to be handled very carefully to make sure that the future of the abused is safeguarded and other schools with the same despicable problem are forced to address it.
