BREAKING: Police recover 60 illegally acquired guns in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has recovered a total of 60 guns from criminals and members of the public who volunteered to surrender the weapons.

Speaking to journalists while displaying the firearms at the command on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Rabi’u Yusuf, said the recovery was sequel to the directive given by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on February 28.

He said the command had recovered 37 rifles, 23 pistols and total of 395 rounds of ammunition, adding that 1 magnum vow that used arrow was also recovered by the command.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, tt could be recalled that precisely on 28th February  2018, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris,NPM,mni announced a proclamation on the mop up of all illegal firearms nationwide and directs all Police Commands and Formations to comply within 21 days.

“As other Commands, Kano State Command is not exempted and we commenced the exercise passionately with a view to see that all such illegally acquired arms and ammunition are fully recovered from criminals and unauthorized persons.

“As the surrendered window elapsed, the Kano State Command is pleased to inform the general Public that the committee set up to that effect has made the following recoveries from criminals such as armed robbers, kidnappers, cattle rustlers, as well as those voluntarily  surrendered by the public during the grace period.

“(1) Pump Action 4 (2) AK 47 Rifles 27 (3) LAR Rifle 2 (4) Single Barrel Rifle 4 (5) Pistols 23 (6) G3 Rifle 1 (7) Magnum Bow (US Made) 1 (8) 6mm Ammunition 319   (9) 3mm ammunition 86 (10) Cartridges 127 (11) Magazines 17.Total Rifles recovered 37 Pistols- 23,” he said

The CP emphasized that the command would commence enforcement of confiscating all illegally acquired arms and ammunition and other dangerous weapons, warming that any person(s) bearing such would face the full wrath of the law.

“Members of the public are urged to report any person found in possession, bearing or in custody of any arm to the nearest Police Station, Area Command offices or the State Headquarters Bompai Kano,” he added.
