The acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, has sacked the Director-General of the State Security Service, SSS, Lawal Daura.
The most ranking director in the service was asked to take over.
A statement signed on Tuesday by Senior Special Assistant to Mr Osinbajo on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said: “Daura has since been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”
Mr Daura is, however, in a closed-door meeting with the Acting President, at the presidential villa in Abuja. The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris is also in the closed-door meeting.
The termination of Daura’s appointment comes few hours after security officials stormed the premises of the National Assembly barricading the entrance.
The masked security operatives and officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrived at the National Assembly very early on Tuesday morning and prevented lawmakers, members of staff of the National Assembly and journalists from entering the complex.
